But of course, this game is not for everyone. It is a thinking, word game. If you like mass market games such as Scrabble or Boggle, then Wordy Nerdy is right up your alley. Game play is easy, but mastering the game is a challenge. Below is a quick rundown of how it is played!
The game consists of two compact, nicely made, quality plastic game boards and two sets of of twenty-five letter cubes, two of which are blanks. The first player calls out a letter. Both players place that letter somewhere on their game board. Then the next person calls out a letter and again, each player places the letter somewhere on their game board. Each player places the letters anywhere they want without the other person knowing where they are placing it. Players continue to take turn selecting letters for placement until all the letters are used. The challenge of the game is to create words horizontally and vertically from the letters which are called out. Not knowing in advance what letters will be called, makes it difficult to decide letter placement, because when all is said and done you will be scored for the most words which can be found in your grid. You get points for words created left to right and for words from top to bottom, plus you get points for words within words. For instance, in the picture above of a game in progress, the player will be getting points for STORM and then for OR which is within STORM. The player will also get points for MANLY and then for MAN, MA and AN which are all within MANLY. As the rest of the board gets filled with letters more words will be formed.
Wordy Nerdy has all the elements of a perfect game. It is easy to learn, it has quick play, it is challenging, it makes you think, and above all...it is fun word game. And don't think for one minute this is just a game for children. It is a great adult game as well! PS - This game makes a great travel game. The letter cubes store inside the the two compact game boards which snap close tightly and can be packed away to take on a plane trip, to the beach, to a friend's house...where ever you plan on going.
