There are commercials on the radio and television for a phonics game which claims to help children learn to read and spell. It is suppose to be pretty good, but it costs over two hundred dollars! Well, here is a great game which has been proven that it helps children learn to read and spell and this game only costs $11.95!!! Smart Cubes was developed by Dr. Judith Baumrin, Ph.D., a director of the Manhattan Center for Learning and a licensed psychologist with a postdoctoral M.A. in special education from the Bank Street College. Smart Cubes has been tested and proven effective. But more importantly, Smart Cubes are a fun way for children to learn their basic words...not to mention, a reasonably priced alternative to the other phonics game. This version of Smart Cubes helps children develop skills to form and recognize simple three-letter words. Children will master consonant and short vowel sounds while acquiring the ability to sound out words. So, how does this game work? It is simple! A child shakes the letter cubes which are in the jar and then rolls them across the playing surface. The scoring cubes have numbers and letters on each face. Simple 3 letter words are formed by combining single letter cubes with letter combination cubes. Preschool children match letters to pictures and diagrams while sounding out the 3 letter words, whereas advanced players keep score by adding the numbers on the scoring cubes and collecting markers. Eventually children will be learning to read and spell. And when they do, they will be able to play without the helpful picture cards. There are many other ways to use the Smart Cubes, such as playing a letter matching game or a sound matching game. There are even bank cubes you can use to make your own letter combinations. With Smart Cubes Basic Words children should be able to learn up to 175 words! The included parent/teacher guide has a word checklist and many helpful ideas! Please note, Smart Cubes is an interactive learning activity which needs adult assistance. Also, children need to know the 26 letters of the alphabet before playing this game.
