CASTANETS ON A HANDLE (Item #135)
Sometimes called clackers, these are made of wood. It is a paddle with a small clapper attached to both sides of the paddle. When you shake the paddle back and forth the clappers strike the paddle and make a clacking sound. Measures about 8-1/2 inches in length.

Also known as a bell on a handle, the single jingle is simply that...one metal bell mounted on a wooden handle. Shake handle for a jingle bell sound. The length of this instrument is about 6" from end to end.

HAND DRUM (Item #128)
The hand drum is like a tambourine with a handle, minus the jingles around the side. The drum's head is made of real rawhide (which produces a superior sound to plastic) so the appearance of the head varies from drum to drum. You use the included mallet to hit the drum. The diameter of the head is 6" and the handle length is about 4". This drum produces a high pitch drum sound.

EGG SHAKER (item #2564)
The egg shaker is a cute little rhythm instrument. It looks like a colored egg (colors vary). When shaken, the plastic egg makes a soft maraca like sound. Oh, please don't be fooled by the picture, the egg is only about 2" in length. TRIVIA - Once sold dozens of egg shakers to a customer who bought them to be used in an Easter Egg Hunt.

INDIAN TOM TOM (Item #2074)
An old fashioned indian tom tom drum. Comes with 2 mallets and a cord for hanging the drum around your head. The drum's head is made of real rawhide (which produces a superior sound to plastic) so the appearance of the head varies from drum to drum. By the way, the head is attached to the drum with a special process which eliminates separation! This tom tom drum has a 5" head and stands about 5" as well. This drum produces a typical tom tom sound with the opposite sides producing sounds in different pitches.

The jingle tap uses two metal discs mounted on a wooden base. When you shake the jungle tap by holding its wooden handle the two metal discs clang against each other to produce a metallic jingle sound. The length of this instrument is slightly more than 6".

Bongos are one of the most popular percussion instruments for children. They are easy to play, fun, not too loud and very appealing. Maracitas are very small wooden maracas with a very low and soft sound. One pair is used as background filler in quiet passages or multiple pairs used by a group to give a smooth low pitch percussion background during regular volume passages. This is a very nice set with a smooth wood finish. From end to end these maracas are about 5 inches long.

This one piece Canto recorder has the Baroque fingering system. It produces accurate, mellow tones. The recorder is made of first quality ABS resin with a highly polished finish. Although young children like to blow into it and make noise, it is best for children 8 and up. At age 8 they can actually learn to play the instrument and play real songs.

RHYTHM STICKS (Item #144)
Classic rhythm instrument. Two dowels approximately one foot in length each. One dowel is smooth and one dowel is fluted (has groves). Rhythm instruments are tapped together to keep the beat. Or the two dowels are slid across one another to give a different sound. A combination of banging and sliding gives an interesting effect. This is the most common and easiest to use of the rhythm instrument family. Only $1.50!

SAND BLOCKS (Item #145)
Another traditional rhythm instrument. Two wooden blocks with a handle. Surface of block is covered with a sheet of fine sandpaper. When blocks are rubbed together they make a scratching sound. Sand blocks can also be banged together or used in combination of banging and rubbing to produce sounds. The sand blocks measure 5" x 3".

6" TAMBOURINE WITH HEAD (Item #409)
A 6" tambourine with five jingles. One one side of the tambourine is covered with real rawhide. Because the head is made from rawhide, the color and consistency varies from instrument to instrument. Tambourines can be shaken, hit with the hand, banged against the body and used many other ways. A few good tambourine players are essential in any rhythm band.

WRIST BELLS (Item #146)
Also known as ankle bells, the wrist bells have four jingles mounted on a cloth strap with a velcro fastener. Can be worn or held. Produces a traditional jingle bells sound. Adjusts from about 2" to 3" in diameter. TRIVIA - Bought by one customer to wear when hiking in Bear Country. The sound of the bells warns the bears that people are coming. The bears run away and do not confront the hikers. Also bought by a couple to be married. Their ring bearers were going to ring the bells as they walked down the aisle.

Wrist Bells
HARDWOOD CLAVES (Item #126)
Claves are tuned, musical pieces of wood that you play by banging them together. Claves are perfect for a rhythm band because their sound compliments other instruments very nicely. The proper way to play Claves is by cupping one hand and placing a clave on it so that it rests between the base of the thumb and the ends of your fingers. Your hand should form a hollow chamber underneath the clave. Now, hold the other clave by the end in your other hand. And as you hold your cupped hand moionless, bring the clave you are holding by the end down to strike the clave on the cupped hand. With practice you should be able to produce sharp, clear resonant tones with a variety of pitches and timbres.Our Price Only $3.95!

The guiro is a rhythm instrument from South and Central America that is made from a gourd that has been carved to create a ridged surface. A wooden striker is moved across the surface to make a rippling percussion sound. The instrument is very popular in Latin music and in songs featuring percussion sounds. This colorful guiro is considered a medium sized guiro. It measures slightly over twelve inches in length and includes wooden striker.

Although many people refer to this as a xylophone, the truth is real  xylophones have wooden bars and glockenspiels have metal bars.This is a basic glockenspiel which comes with two plastic mallets. Each bar has correct tonality. There are eight bars which cover the musical scale from C to C. Each bar is a different color and the name of each note is etched into each bar. Included wih the glockenspiel is an insert with two songs to get a child started. The glockenspiel is one of the easiest instruments to teach a child to play real musical songs.
