Description
This is an old time classic game. It was out of circulation for many years, but it is now back! Yes, we have the reintroduction of the classic Milton Bradley game. It is here in all its classic glory...the board, the questions, even the box is the same from yester-year. And the quality of the game...the quality from years gone by is here too! It even includes the famous quiz booklet with three levels of questions (Student, Graduate and Scholar) which makes the game great for all-family play!
For those of you not familiar with this game, let us explain it to you!
To begin, Go To The Head Of The Class could be considered the original Trivial Pursuit game, but it is more than that. It requires knowledge in a variety of areas such as Science, Math, Geography and more. The questions are divided into different levels of difficulty so young children, teens and adults can all play against one another.
Although the focus of the game is on the questions, there is fun board play involved as well. The objective of the game is to travel the board from kindergarten to graduation. Get a question right and you move six spaces forward, get it wrong and you move back two spaces. But there are special spaces on the board such as Homework, Pop Quiz and Exam. Land on these squares and you may get to move a little quicker ahead...or if luck is not on your side, you have to move even further backwards.
Game play is fun. The questions are challenging. In fact, listen to this...
As the person assigned to do this web page, I decided to play the game at home with one, or both of my children and wife. Unfortunately, only my 11 year old daughter (sixth grader) was in the mood to play.
But after playing for about five minutes, my older daughter (16 and a junior in high school) decided she wanted to play also.
So, now there were three of us playing.
As we continued to play, my wife sat down and suddenly she wanted to join in. Unfortunately, the game was too far gone to let her start (but we let her answer some questions if we got them wrong).
Yes, both my wife and older daughter wanted to join in after observing my younger daughter and I playing. A sign of a good game!
Well, my 11 year old received questions from the middle difficulty, whereas my 16 year old and I received questions from the hardest difficulty category. Although I gave a great showing (after being sent back to kindergarten for getting too many answers wrong) I still was the big loser. My oldest daughter won, and my younger daughter came in second.
Even though my younger daughter didn't win, I asked her afterwards what she thought about the game. And she gave me a thumbs up. She thought it was fun, and that it had some cool things in it like the Exam, Pop Quiz and Homework spaces. My older daughter, who can be quite smug, also thought it was a good game. But that may have been because she creamed us!
My wife and I also liked the game. But we must be frank. Our game did take nearly an hour to complete (the box says it can take from 25 to 55 minutes). So, this is not the type of game you can say "hey, we have a few minutes, let's play Go To The Head Of The Class".
It is a game that takes time to play. To some this is a bad thing, but to me this is a good thing. I like spending time with my girls playing games and having fun.
My wife and I also liked the choice of questions included with the game (which were updated from the version of many years ago). There were general knowledge questions, and challenging math questions. I personally thought some of the geography questions were tough...and I was duly impressed at the information my younger daughter knew (which I didn't). Although it doesn't seem like there are enough questions included with the game, there are more than enough questions included to keep your children challenged and stimulated for a long time!
This a great game which should have a spot on every family's game shelf.
For ages 7 and up!
